Meet Madison

I am running for State Representative because Louisiana needs strong leaders to push a bold, progressive agenda, and District 91 deserves a representative who is ready and able to do the work to get legislation passed that actually makes everyday Louisianan's lives better.

As the daughter of a Teamster dad and a part-time waitress mom, my parents taught me to work hard and think big. I am a product of public schools and the first member of my family to earn a four-year degree. After moving to New Orleans for college, I dove head-first into community action interning for the city’s Public Defender’s Office and working in the emergency room of a local hospital during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. After Hurricane Ida, I realized I could use my legal training and policy background to help the community recover and founded a company that assists Louisiana homeowners whose claims for home repair were denied or underpaid by their insurance companies.

My passion has always been fighting for equity, equal opportunity, and economic security. In our community, poverty and inequality are not abstract issues but lived realities for many friends and neighbors. Access to a quality education helped propel me from a kid who relied on subsidized school lunches – to a scholarship to attend Loyola University – to becoming a successful small business owner. For these reasons and more, I am deeply committed to ensuring all Louisianas have access to a good education, a decent-paying job, affordable healthcare, and opportunities to better their families’ lives.

Today, women in Louisiana are under attack by extreme legislators, our roads are in disrepair, our teachers are grossly underpaid, our workers aren’t paid a living wage and public safety concerns are at an all-time high. We need legislators who are willing to dig in and tackle our toughest challenges – public safety, the rising cost of living, and access to affordable healthcare. An electorate as engaged and progressive as District 91 also deserves a legislator that remembers there is more to holding office than playing politics in Baton Rouge.

As a small businesswoman, I know how to identify key players and bring traditionally opposing groups together to find commonality and get things done. I am ready to turn good ideas into concrete policy that will improve people’s lives and counteract systematic inequalities. I’m ready to build coalitions in our community from the Irish Channel to Central City. I’m ready to fight for and with my community to give families across the district and Louisiana the best future possible.

Madison lives in the East Riverside neighborhood with her fiancé, Blake, and their two poodles, Lindy Boggs and Huey P. Long. Madison is a proud Democrat.
